04-14-08 Conditions for Inner Healing

The Three Basic Conditions for Inner Healing

There are three basic conditions for inner healing.  One is faith.  To believe in God's love is just part of it.  We also need to believe in His power.  It is His power of His love that heals.  We need to believe that the force, the intensity of His love for me personally, is what is going to heal.  That is gift, isn't it?  That is gift.  Another condition necessary for inner healing is repentance.  That is renunciation of sin.  We must allow the Spirit to lead us through the conversion process.  It is interesting that it is the dark side of us that attracts God.  It is the part which we want to hide from everybody, even ourselves.  There is a book which came out several years ago entitled, "Make friends with your shadow."  We do not even want to know the shadow side.  Yet, it is this dark side of us that attracts God because is the part of me that needs a savior.  Otherwise, why should He come?  Otherwise, it negates everything that He did.  It is the dark side, which He can bring into light.  Scripture says "In God there is no darkness." He is all light.

The third condition is forgiveness.  This is biggest block to the healing process.  Failure to forgive other persons that have hurt me can block my own healing.  This resentment, this anger, this unforgiveness has many faces.  It can spin a shell around the soul.  That bitterness, that shell, will block the gentle  penetration of God's healing love.

After the Resurrection, we see these three elements used by Jesus.  We see Him use faith.  "Thomas come and put your hand here, do not doubt anymore but believe."  Thomas was healed in that belief.  That was a very special condition for Thomas's freedom and Thomas' healing.  We see that on the road to Emmaus when, all of a sudden, the disciples of Jesus recognize Him.  That was a pure gift of faith.  They were healed.  He was with them in another way.  They could enjoy Him; they could see Him, through faith.
Jesus used repentance for healing.   "Peter, do you love Me?"  Jesus didn't let up, "Do you love Me? Do you love Me more?"  He kept at Peter until Peter, came forth with that beautiful repentance that Jesus wanted, a repentance which came out of love.  It did not come out of fear.  "Do you love Me?" and "Do you love Me more?"

We see Jesus using the condition of forgiveness Himself before the final healing.  The first thing He did on Easter night was to breathe His Spirit into His apostles saying, "Whose sins you forgive, can be forgiven."  We are not talking about the Sacramental power of the priesthood.  We are talking about forgiving.  If we hang on to the sins of others, Jesus says, "Whose sins you retain, you can retain them," they will poison you and cause a lot of other problems too.  But He gave us His love power to forgive. Remember, only God can forgive.  You must have a supernatural love to do it.

We see Jesus using these conditions for inner healing all the time, but especially right after the Resurrection.  Jesus, the Light of the world,  is our companion on this little inner pilgrimage.  He is the Anointed One.  He is the Healer.  This is part of His mission:  to proclaim liberty to captives.  He wants to release us from every area - body, mind, soul and spirit.
