Excerpt from Healing Power of Compassion
Talk given by M. Nadine
“Remember your compassion and love, O LORD; for they are ages old.” (Ps 25:6)
The power is right there in the Cross of Jesus Christ. That’s what compassion is all about. This is where the real power of intercession is. We’re not going to find too many intercessors at this level of intercession. Remember that Jesus didn’t find too many at the foot of the Cross either. But God doesn’t need many people. He can use each of us for the birthing that’s needed now for the entire Church if we, with God, will enter into this healing ministry of compassionate love – of compassionate intercession.
We can’t talk about compassion without talking about the Cross because everything about the Cross is passion. It’s passionate love. It’s love at it’s very best. Jesus said, “Greater love than this no one has” (Jn 15:13). It’s the epitome of love. So as we grow in our love relationship with the Lord, we will be growing more and more into the mystery and beauty and joy and power and wisdom of the Cross.
The word compassion basically means “with passion.” This means that we need to identify with the one that we love. It always speaks about identification. “God is love” (1 Jn 4:8). The very nature of love at any level is to seek union. Love must unite whether it’s love at a friendship level or at a deep marital level or at this relationship with God level. God’s love within you and His love within me must unite. That’s Church; that’s community. So it only stands to reason that those who would be deeply in love with Jesus would have been there at the foot of the Cross, identifying with the One they love, in His passionate love affair with the Father and all of us.
“I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” (Jn 13:34)
