Behold, I make all things new

(Rev 21:5)

Dear Bellwether Friends, Family and Companions of the Lamb,

May the joy and peace of the Lamb be with all of you!

We want to give all of you a prayerful update on the status of our mortgage and financial situation.  At the eleventh hour, through all of you, we were able to stop the foreclosure of our Bellwether Campus as well as the off-campus houses.  As we have already mentioned, these funds came in from our support both here in the U.S. and abroad.

However, making ends meet continues to be difficult in this economy as we enter the new year.  We are asking all of you to please give prayerful consideration to a monthly tithe of any amount, for one year (2012) to continue to assist us in keeping our mortgages current and to meet our operational expenses.  If you would like, we are able to provide envelopes for you and can also process monthly credit card donations, which is especially convenient for our international community.

If you feel the Lord is calling you to commit to this pledge, please fill out your commitment sheet and send it back to us.  Some of you are unable to commit to a monetary tithe, but please know that your prayers of intercession are equally important in the support of this Charism and ministry.

All of you remain in our daily prayers of intercession and we welcome your prayer requests. You are also most welcome to schedule a retreat at Bellwether to “come apart and rest awhile”!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  (Rom 15:13)

 “Celebration of Light”

Advent Retreat

“In the beginning, God said “Let there be Light,

and there was Light and God saw that the Light was good”!

(Genesis 1:3)

On December 2-4th, Friends and Companions of the Lamb from 12 different states and from as far away as Canada and Australia joined us at Bellwether in Omaha, NE for a contemplative and Spirit-filled Advent Retreat, “Celebration of Light.”  Pondering the Joyful Mysteries with Mary, Our Lady of Light, we prepared our hearts for a new birthing of Jesus through the four pillars of contemplation: prayer, penance, silence and solitude.  We experienced the joy of being “gathered together in one place,” as we received a new outpouring of the Father’s Love through the Power of the Holy Spirit, to live as “children of the Light” (Jn 12:36) and to go forth clothed in the “armor of Light” (Rom 13:12) to make visible the Kingdom of God on earth.

Even the peaceful snowfall upon Bellwether during the weekend led us to experience Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart and the pure Lamb of God, Jesus, Who we eagerly await to come again in hearts this Christmas.

Prayerful talks were given by M. Nadine and members of the Bellwether
community on the four pillars of contemplative prayer:
The Gift of Annunciation Prayer, The Joy of Visitation Penance,
The Peace of Bethlehem Silence andThe Glory of Desert Solitude

Excerpt from Prayer Warrior Summit Formation

Talk given by M. Nadine

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.” (Jer 1:5)

Each of us has heard God calling us by name. He called Moses by name on Mount Sinai and his response was, “Here I am” (Ex 3:4). This is to be our response, too. We begin our Summit meeting on Mount Sinai where Moses received his call to be a prayer warrior and a tremendous intercessor, but first and foremost, he was called to be a prophet to listen and dialogue with God. This is where he received his instructions.

We are called to the very summit of love, to transforming union, to be so totally one with Jesus, especially Jesus Christ Crucified, which is the summit of agape love. Jesus is the Prayer Warrior; Jesus is the Intercessor; Jesus is the Mediator. Jesus is the Beloved Son, the One who the Father listens to. So when Jesus prays in, with, and through us, we know we have the Father’s ear. We also have received a call, a mission, and it is like Moses’ mission, but first and foremost it is a call to relationship with the Lord.

God is saying, “I will send you.” He is talking about sending us forth now as prayer warriors right into the enemy’s camp to lead His people out of Egypt, out of paganism, out of the desert, and out of all the places where they are confined right now. He promised Moses on Mount Sinai, “I will be with you.” Jesus Himself also said, “I am with you always.” This means we need to believe it! If a prayer warrior doesn’t have that belief that God is with us, then we’re going to go down fast because Satan will know right away that we’re not really sure, particularly when the thick of the battle comes and the clouds get dark. God is telling us, “You’re not going to go into battle alone because the battle belongs to Me. It’s My battle, but I need to fight it through, with, and in you now. I will be with you.” Our response is “Lord, I believe You. I truly believe in You. I know You wouldn’t call me to this kind of ministry and mission if You weren’t true to Your promise.”

“Let the weak man say, ‘I am a warrior!’” (Joel 4:10)

Excerpt from Desert Warrior

Talk given by M. Nadine

"So I will allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak to her heart.” (Hosea 2:16)

Let’s briefly look at some of the fruits of desert spirituality. The fruit of this desert spirituality for Our Lady was Jesus. She listened. She heard. She did ask a question (which is fine), “How can this be?” (Lk 1:34). Then she gave Her “yes”. She made a definite choice, and she chose and surrendered to God’s will. “Be it done to me (no conditions here) according to Your Word” (Lk 1:38). This means – Your way, Your time. Have you ever given a “yes” to the Lord but with the condition of “tomorrow” or “not yet” or “I don’t think I’m quite ready”? What joy to give a surrendered, unconditional “yes” to the Lord like Our Lady!

Another fruit of the desert spirituality is that it feeds us. We need to be fed by God personally. We need God’s Word; we need God’s life. One time when Mother Teresa came to America and saw the spiritual poverty of our country, she said that America had the worst spiritual poverty of any nation in the world. We were the poorest of the poor and extremely hungry for the Divine, the spiritual. So we need this Daily Bread. Every day we need to be fed something from God. We can’t give something we don’t have. We need to receive more Love if we are going to live the New Commandment of Love. We need to receive more of God if we are going to share Him with others.

Another beautiful fruit of desert spirituality is revelation. God initiates. It is a gift. God initiated the presence of the entire Trinity to Our Lady at the Annunciation. God will always reveal Himself because He takes the first step. He is Love (1 Jn 4:8). He is the Lover –we are the beloved –and so He always initiates.

When we have this intimacy with God, another special fruit of desert spirituality is it will help us to resist temptation. There can be a lot of temptations, evil, and dangers in deserts, but when Jesus was tempted by Satan to turn the stones into food, Jesus didn’t waver because He was already being fed by His Father. One time I asked God, “Where did Eve make her biggest mistake?” We can’t stop that first insidious voice of Satan, that first accusation or that first temptation, but we do have power over the second step of how we are going to react. The Lord showed me, “She didn’t check it out with Me.” All she had to do was talk it over with God. And so, we must remember to always check it out.

“Mary said, ‘Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your Word.’” (Lk 1:38)

Excerpt from Prayer Warrior Summit Formation

Talk given by M. Nadine

“The night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us then throw off the works of darkness (and) put on the armor of Light”   (Rom 13:12)

Before St. Paul tells us to put on the armor of Light, he says, “Let us throw off the works of darkness” (Rom 13:12). Once we cast out deeds of darkness and God’s light comes into us, then Satan doesn’t have a platform anymore. So the Light is our number one weapon to dispel the darkness and uproot Satan.

Sin will always be an infraction of God’s love in some way. It will always make us somehow love God, ourselves, and others less. It will always strike against Love with the weapon of fear. The Lord indicated to us, “I want sin rooted out now. I don’t want any more band-aids. I want it rooted out so you can be totally free from Satan’s camp, free to live and move and have your being in Me.” In the Gospels, Jesus talks so much about fear, “Fear not. Fear not, little flock. Do not fear. Fear is useless.” He was giving us a weapon, His love, God’s love, to come against fear. “Perfect love casts out all fear” (1 Jn 4:18). Only God’s love is perfect love. God is the Deliverer and He will uproot the fear with His love. When we are with Jesus, adhered to Jesus, we are on firm foundation because Jesus is the Rock, and nothing can shake a house that is built on Rock.

When a room is totally dark, all you do is walk over and flip on the light switch, and the darkness is gone instantly, not gradually, but instantly. This is what God’s light will do to our darkness. We want to invite Him to bring His light into these areas of sin, darkness, and unhealed emotions. When He comes in Truth, “the Truth will set us free” (Jn 8:32).

“While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become children of the Light." (Jn 12:36)

Excerpt from Healing Power of Compassion

Talk given by M. Nadine

"Behold, your Mother." (Jn 19:27)

Our Lady teaches us a deeper level of intercession – deep-heart intercession. Everything Our Lady teaches us, as you know, has to do with the heart. She’s all heart; She’s a contemplative. She carries God, the Trinity, and all of us within Her Heart. So at the foot of the Cross, Her Heart was pierced, and the Heart of Jesus was pierced on the Cross also. Now this was the fulfillment for Mary of Simeon’s prophecy. Remember when She was just a young mother and was offering Jesus in the Temple? It was there when that tremendous prophetic word came to Her from Simeon, “Your own Heart a sword shall pierce so that the thoughts of other hearts may be revealed” (Lk 2:35).

We don’t know how much Mary understood of that prophetic word, but She certainly understood it by the time She was standing at the foot of the Cross because now was the fulfillment of that prophetic word. Her Heart was definitely being pierced.

When our hearts are pierced, pierced with love (and maybe it’s only those we love that can pierce our heart at this level), then we know our intercession has power. It’s purchasing tremendous graces. The Lord has shown us that when His Heart was pierced, Blood and Water came forth. This is the Life that is behind the whole Sacramental system of the Church. This is God’s Life.

“And you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." (Lk 2:35)
